A New Chapter

I've been thinking a lot here lately about making up my mind and just potty training Blake.  I know a lot of getting him trained just has to do with me being ready to just do it!  It was that way with Connor.  Once I made up my mind that no more diapers were going on him, it was a piece of cake!  I regretted not doing it 9 months earlier, especially since he would eagerly sit on the potty and go whenever I would ask him.  He just wouldn't go on his own to the potty.

So, today as I started getting Blake ready, I had a diaper ready and then decided since I knew we weren't going anywhere today we would just give this the best shot ever.  And, boy am I glad I did.  It is now almost 9:00 and we haven't even gotten close to an accident.  The first half of the day he went naked.  I put a towel down on the couch for when he sat down.  It went so smoothly!  Then after naptime he decided he wanted to wear his underwear.  I was afraid it was because he wanted to do #2.  So, I kept a close eye on him and he's done great!  He did tell me one time he was going to Connor's room to play which translates into "I'm going to poop."  So, I told him we were going to do that only in the potty now.  So we went there and tried but weren't successful.  But, he'll get it.  I'm not worried or concerned at all.  I'm even going to try no pull-ups except at night for the first couple of nights.  Connor did so much better when we didn't use pull-ups.  That's just a crutch for them to get lazy.  So, we'll see how tonight goes.  I'm going to try to get up in the middle of the night to take him so that maybe even the pull-up will be dry in the morning.  But, I've beem battling some serious allergies today and am planning on taking a night time medicine.  So, who knows if I'll wake up during the night.  But, I'm going to try.

Hopefully tomorrow will be just as successful as today.  We'll be at church, so that should be the test.

More Eggs and Play Dough

Last Thursday, the entire kindergarten was suppose to go to a local assisted living facility to do an egg hunt with the residents.  But, it rained (of course).  So, they rescheduled it for this past Tuesday.  Yep, you guessed it!  It rained yet again.  So, they gave up on the assisted living facility and just did the egg hunt at school today.  Each student took an egg for each student and put their name on it.  So, the kids just had to look around for their own egg.  It took quite a long time.

Blake had fun throwing dead leaves.  One little girl informed him
he was ruining their egg hunt.  Not sure how because
there were no eggs around and he never bothered any of the kids.
He was in his own little world...as usual.

Aaron has gone to his parents this weekend to help them clean up from the storms this week.  So, we've just been hanging out at home.  The boys decided to play with play dough.  Connor does not like to be downstairs by himself, so I had to find something to do downstairs so they could play with play dough.  So, what exciting thing did I fill my evening with????  You will be jealous!!!  I cleaned the bathroom downstairs.  Yep, cleaning the toilet, shower and sink filled my exciting Friday night.  But, as you know, I don't mind to clean, so it wasn't that bad.  Here are some of the kids' creations.

Can't remember what Blake told me this was...

Connor's upside down mushroom...

Blake's baseball...

Connor's snake...curled up...

and now uncurled...

In Whoville

Definition:  Whoville=place where Aaron worked today

So, today Blake and I had to make a trip to Sam's to get a lot of stuff.  Boy was I about out of everything.  With the stormy weather the past 2 days I have not ventured out at all.  So, it was looking pretty sad around here.  On our way home we drove by Aaron's office.  Blake knows exactly where Aaron's work is and talks about it as we drive by.  Today was no different.  As soon as we turned the corner by the office he started talking about "my Daddy."  It went something like this.

Blake:  My daddy's office.  He is there.
Me:  No, I think he is in Whoville.  We'll see if his car is there.  (15 seconds later)...  No, his car is not there.
Blake:  That's because he drove it to Whoville.  He is in Whoville.

I have to remind myself a lot that he just turned 2 1/2  a week ago but talks like a 4 year old.

So Thankful!!

I am just so sadden by all of the destruction that I'm seeing on the TV because of the tornadoes yesterday.  We were in the risk for really bad tornadoes, but thankfully we did not experience any.  We did have a tornado warning early in the morning (6:40) that we did go to our safe room for.  But, thankfully we really didn't even experience extremely high winds.  I just feel so fortunate.  The rest of the day was full of severe storms, but nothing compared to what some of the people experienced.  I have thanked God so many times today for the safety through yesterday.  And, I continue to pray for all of the people dealing with losses...family members or homes.  We just can't take anything for granted.

It's About Me!

Okay, so when I started this month-long daily blogging marathon the purpose was for me to look back at the day to find the heart-smiling, sweet, happiness in the small things...with the kids.  Well, today is about me.  Nothing big, but something that meant a lot to me that only a girl could understand...A HAIRCUT AND NEW COLOR!!!  Yes, I've been putting off getting a haircut (for what reason I'm really not sure) and my color redone.  I always wait until I just have to have a haircut instead of planning ahead and getting it done before it just starts looking nasty every day.  I just love the lady that does my hair.  I have the best time while I'm there.  It is just a relaxing, me time...even if it is only 2 hours.  Sorry, no pictures of the hair.  I should have planned ahead and fixed it up for a picture.  But, in the midst of all the storms going on today, that's not going to happen.

So far behind!

Goodness.  I did so good at first blogging every single day with a sweet moment from the day and it has gone down hill.

But, here is my Monday post...two days late.  Connor didn't have school on Monday, and it was a BEAUTIFUL day.  After a quick trip to the Y, we came home and got cleaned up and headed to the playground.

Blake enjoying his lunch

Connor doesn't look too happy.  He had hurt his hand while playing
 on the monkey bars.
So, he couldn't grip the swing very well.

Easter Sunday!!!

What a WONDERFUL Easter we had.  Every Easter we get up a little extra early to see what the Easter bunny left and to get to church earlier because the deacons always have a pancake breakfast for any members who want to come.  Well, Friday night we started putting Blake in Connor's room to sleep.  He'd done really well EXCEPT now he thinks it is time to get up around 6:00 or 6:30.  Well, Easter morning it was 5:55.  So, I got up even earlier than I had planned.

Here are the boys checking out their Easter baskets.

And the traditional family picture

Then we headed off to church for a fabulous service...Resurrection Sunday!!  Our service was just spectacular.  Then we followed tradition and went to our adoptive parent's house for lunch.  They have invited us over for lunch for as long as I can remember since Aaron and I have been married.  Brenda had the kid's table set very cute and this year had invited a couple of other couples, so eating was extended into 2 rooms instead of just one...the under 40 room and over 40 rooms!  Ha!

Kids table...

Egg hunting time...

The boys had a terrific time but were worn out!  But, one of our friends asked us if we'd like to go to a local state park and hike in a few hours.  We've never taken the boys, so we thought that would be lots of fun.  So, we brought them home, let them sleep for about 45 minutes and then headed out to the park.  Of course, the boys loved it.

Fun, heart-smiling times!

Egg Hunt and Basket Weaving

Here are some pictures of our egg hunt that our church put on at a local park.  Both kids had such a great time.  There were golden eggs hidden.  Between Connor and Blake they found 6 of them.  Some of the golden eggs had stuff in them and some had numbers for extra special prizes.  We ended up with 3 eggs that had numbers in them.  So, we ended up with 1 giant chocolate bunny, 1 smaller chocolate bunny and 2 packages of peeps (which I think will be a while elephant gift at Christmas!! heehee)

    Ready to hunt!!!

Waiting to hear ready, set, go!  Look at them holding hands!

There is one golden egg...in the tree!!

The other excitement for our Saturday was Aaron working on an Easter cake to take to Easter lunch.  Here are some pictures of the Easter basket cake.
